Tottenham are edging closer to securing Radu Dragusin's signature as Ange Postecoglou looks to add a second signing to his squad. Timo Werner became Spurs' first addition on a six-month loan deal — including an option to buy clause — with star forward Son Heung-min now on international duty at the Asia Cup.
The German international has reinforced Postecoglou's attacking options alongside the likes of Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson. However, a new centre-back has been a priority area to strengthen for Spurs this month.
Tottenham are incredibly short on centre-back options as things stand following injuries to Cristian Romero and Ben Davies as well as Ashley Phillips' loan move to Plymouth Argyle. Micky van de Ven looks set to return to action this weekend after recovering from a hamstring injury, whilst Emerson Royal has deputised at the heart of the defence in recent weeks.
It looks as though Dragusin will be thrown straight into action when his move to Hotspur Way is complete. The Romanian international will join Spurs from Genoa in a deal worth £21.5million and a further £4million in add-ons, with Djed Spence moving in the opposite direction on loan until the end of the campaign.
Unless Romero follows in the footsteps of Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon and becomes the latest player to make a swift return to the matchday squad ahead of schedule, it could be one of Emerson Royal or Dragusin to partner Van de Ven in defence. The Dutchman only just returned to the Spurs squad for last Friday's FA Cup win over Burnley but he remained an unused substitute with Postecoglou instead needing to make attacking changes with his side in danger of going to a replay.
