Rennes are increasingly confident of signing Serbian international Nemanja Matić (35) in the coming days, according to a report this Thursday from Ouest-France. The Stade Rennais board have identified the AS Roma midfielder as a priority signing amid the sale of youth product Lesley Ugochukwu to Chelsea and the contract termination of Portuguese midfielder Xeka. Matić is himself keen on a move to the ambitious Ligue 1 club, who will also take part in next season’s Europa League group stage.
Matić has been offered a two-year deal by Stade Rennais and is said to have informed AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin, head coach José Mourinho and Sporting Director Tiago Pinto of his intention to leave the Italian capital in order to join Brittany. The outlet reports that Stade Rennais president Olivier Cloarec is hopeful of sealing the arrival of Matić before the weekend.Ouest-France claims that the Giallorossi would like to replace the departing Matić with out-of-favour PSG midfielder Renato Sanches. However, sources contacted by Get French Football News affirms that the Sanches and Matić situations are in no way linked. Sanches would be a numerical replacement for Mady Camara, who was on loan with AS Roma last season from Olympiakos.
Gazzetta dello Sport affirm today that Roma have no desire to let Nemanja Matić the player leave.
