Tottenham attacker Richarlison has admitted that he will soon undergo surgery on his pelvis. In and out of the Spurs starting XI this season, the Brazilian was dropped to the bench by Ange Postecoglou for Monday evening's 4-1 defeat against Chelsea.
With the head coach needing to make a number of alterations due to Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie's red cards and injuries to Micky van de Ven and James Maddison, Richarlison wasn't brought on and watched the full game from the substitutes' bench. Speaking to ESPN after the big defeat, the former Everton man revealed that he will soon have surgery as he believes the time has come to rest after suffering for the past eight months.
«Of course I expected to play today as it was an important game, a classic,» he said. «Yesterday I found out that I wasn't going to play, but it's part of football. Of course selection, call-up, you can ask any player and he'll be waiting. Of course I I expected it, but I already felt that it was also time to take a break.
»Look, the last few months haven't been easy for me. I've also been suffering with my health, I think I've already spoken to the doctors and I'll soon have pubic surgery.
«I've been suffering for eight months, fighting, looking at the team, at the club and I didn't look for me. I think the time has come to rest, take a break. Let's see the next few days, soon I'll do what's best for me.»
Following his struggles this season, Richarlison has missed out on the Brazil squad for his country's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina. Admitting that he doesn't deserve a call-up due to his recent displays, Richarlison has said it is up to him to rediscover his Tottenham form and return to the Brazil fold.
