Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to sign Club America and Uruguay centre-back Sebastian Caceres in the January transfer window. The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Spurs over the last month and his displays for his nation have only placed more eyes on him.
According to South American journalist Fernando Esquivel, negotiations had been initiated by the north Londoners at the start of the move. It's said that Spurs 'would have sent' a formal offer to Club America, with a deal viewed as a 'definitive transfer'.
Fortunately, the player is understood to have given the green light for the deal. With the January transfer window approaching, Spurs are likely to push ahead with their interest.
Ange Postecoglou is desperate for another centre-back following the injury to Micky van de Ven. The summer signing, who had hit the ground running in the Premier League, suffered a hamstring injury in Spurs' 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, leaving only Eric Dier and Cristian Romero as the natural central defenders.
Caceres has emerged as a leading candidate to bolster Postecoglou's options in defence after a series of impressive displays for Uruguay. Having only made his senior debut in September 2022, the defender has played every minute of Marcelo Bielsa side's World Cup qualifying campaign.
After collecting four points against Chile, Ecuador and Columbia, Uruguay strengthened their hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup with clean sheet wins over Brazil and Argentina, with Caceres impressing.
