Rodney McAree admits Dungannon Swifts must notch up points on the board sooner rather than later
Rodney McAree admits he is deeply worried by Dungannon Swifts’ position but is taking hope from performances.
The Stangmore Park side remain bottom after another defeat by Carrick Rangers.
In a game that summed up their season, they impressed in spells but did not capitalise and were punished by a more ruthless opponent.
With just one League win all term, McAree admits they need a break – and soon.
“You have to be worried,” he explained. “You don’t want to be sitting there. We spoke about that before the game – you don’t want to be bottom of the table.
“At this moment, we are, we have to deal with that.
“We have to do better and we have to try to get off the bottom.”
He added: “We all have to take responsibility for it, I’ll certainly take responsibility for it.
“If I thought there weren’t performances, I’d be even more worried, but we are getting good performances.”
The Swifts led through Dean Curry’s header but should have been further in front.
And they paid the ultimate price, as Carrick turned it around to take full control after half-time.
Curtis Allen levelled from the penalty spot, then sub Nedas Maciulaitis scored twice.
Caolan Marron pulled one back late on, but it wasn’t enough.
The defender was also shown a second yellow after the final whistle for arguing with the referee.
McAree added: “Overall, I thought we were decent outside of a 15-minute period where it was complete madness.
“We did really well in the first half and I thought we were well on top.
“We came in at half-time and talked about the Crusaders game (a 4-1 defeat last month) where we were very good in the first
