Wayne Rooney, Joleon Lescott and Rio Ferdinand have named their combined England XI for Euro 2024 after disagreeing on who should be named in midfield.
The trio were tasked with naming a combined England XI during Sky Sports' coverage of Man United's win over Everton on Saturday.
They settled on deploying a 4-3-3 formation with Jordan Pickford handed the nod in goal. A back four of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw was also agreed upon.
However, there was much disagreement when it came to the midfield three, with Rooney and Ferdinand unable to agree before settling on a three of Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice and Phil Foden.
The front three included Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford as Rooney and Ferdinand joked about their disagreement in midfield.
'That team gets to the final,' said Ferdinand.
Rooney hit back: 'It depends who you are playing, I would be concerned with that midfield against a top team. It will be too open.
'It is a midfield that would scare any team in Europe but Foden, Bellingham, they play with a freedom, you are leaving Declan Rice in midfield on his own.
'This is why Rio has done the TV for so long!'
Discussing the attack, Ferdinand pleaded his case for Rashford as he said: 'On the left I would go Rashford. He looks like he is coming to the home straight and the confidence will be there.'
Rooney agreed, but admitted that Jack Grealish must come into consideration.
'England are blessed in attack. We haven’t’ even mentioned Grealish,' he said. 'I would go Marcus because he is a threat and plays a lot different for England. It suits him more.'
