Roy Hodgson laughing at Pep Guardiola after Crystal Palace's equaliser vs City

Crystal Palace scored a late penalty to draw 2-2 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday - and manager Roy Hodgson couldn't help but laugh in the direction of City boss Pep Guardiola.

City, who were without Erling Haaland for the third consecutive game, took the lead in the first half through Jack Grealish.

Guardiola's side created a piece of Premier League history in the opening 45 minutes, with all 10 outfield players creating a chance in one half of football for the first time.

They then went 2-0 up on 54 minutes through Rico Lewis, and many would have expected them to ease to victory from there.

But Jean-Philippe Mateta gave Palace hope on 76 minutes with a first-time finish.

And the visitors were then awarded a penalty in stoppage time when Phil Foden took out Mateta when attempting to clear the ball.

Michael Olise stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom corner to restore parity for Palace and rescue what could be a crucial point amid a gruelling run of festive fixtures.

And Hodgson was spotted laughing at Guardiola after the goal went in, as the City boss puts his head in his hands in disgust.

Speaking after the game, Hodgson told Palace's official website: "It wasn't just a question of resilience, it was a question of spirit and determination as well.

"If we wanted excuses for a defeat today, we had loads and loads of them. When you've seven players injured and five of them are regulars in the attacking positions, we've got even more reason to say, 'Well done today boys'.
