Seema takes over as new Sekhukhune United coach

Sekhukhune United on Monday appointed Lehlohonolo Seema as their new coach, effectively prising him away from neighbouring Polokwane City.

No details were given of the contract terms for the 43-year-old former Basotho international, who leaves Polokwane City after 14 matches in charge since he joined them just days before the start of the new DStv Premiership season.

Seema replaces Brandon Truter, who was fired earlier this month and is the fifth coach to take charge at the club in their three top flight seasons, following on McDonald Makhubedu, Owen da Gama, Kaitano Tembo and Truter.

Makhubedu has been interim coach for their past two matches and remains to his position as assistant coach, the club said in a statement.

“In an effort to fill the vacant head coach position ahead of what promises to be a challenging November and December period, interspaced (sic) by both League and CAF

Confederation Cup fixtures, 'Babina Noko' have acted swifly (sic) in securing coach Seema to steady the ship and ascend into the position,” said the club.

“I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the chairman, Mr. Simon Malatji for having afforded me an opportunity to lead the team. I'm most appreciative of how the negotiations between my management team and the club were handled, in a respectable and candid manner. There is obviously a lot ahead of us and therefore I have to hit the ground running,” said Seema.

“I don't wish to make any promises except to offer my work ethic and dedication to the club and its supporters.”

Seema, who played at centre back for Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates and captained his country, first coached at Celtic, alongside John Maduka, before spells at Chippa United, Black Leopards, Lamontville Golden
