Several Chelsea players have been spotted at Stamford Bridge to offer their teammates support for the Carabao Cup third round clash against Brighton. The Blues are currently winless in three Premier League games and Mauricio Pochettino wants to transform his side's fortunes, while also offering minutes to some of the youngsters.
The Chelsea boss made five changes to his starting lineup against the Seagulls which lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at the weekend, with Marc Cucurella, Ian Maatsen, Lesley Ugochukwu, Ben Chilwell and Cole Palmer thrown under the spotlight. Pochettino was forced to leave Malo Gusto at home after he was shown a red-card against the Villans, while choosing to omit Noni Madueke and Thiago Silva from the matchday squad altogether.
In fact, despite having been left out of the cup tie, Madueke and Silva both decided to watch on from behind the home dugout. The duo were also joined by Christopher Nkunku, Wesley Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka, Benoit Badiashile and Reece James.
Contrary to widespread reports, the Chelsea players looked united as they exchanged plenty of pleasantries upon taking their seats. While they won't be able to offer their services on the pitch, their support will be much appreciated by Pochettino and the likes of Alfie Gilchrist, Josh Brooking and Alex Matos.
Ahead of the Brighton clash, the Blues boss was asked what he likes the most about his squad. Pochettino replied: «I think the belief. In a very short time that we are together. Realistically, we only started after the transfer window closed.
»Before was a little bit unstable. In a few weeks, I think the team get what we wanted and I think we are showing the ideas and the way that we dominate the games.
