Brighton supporters were heard singing an X-rated chant towards Nicolas Jackson during Chelsea's Carabao Cup third round clash against the Seagulls. The 22-year-old striker, who joined the Blues from Villarreal in the summer, has struggled to find the net since arriving in the Premier League.
Jackson, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in 2031, had featured six times for the west Londoners in the English top-flight this term before the Brighton game, picking up more yellow cards than he has scored goals. Despite the Senegal international's best efforts, he hasn't quite managed to relive the promising form which he showcased during pre-season.
With Jackson set to miss this weekend's trip to Craven Cottage due to suspension, Pochettino handed the striker the chance to redeem himself against the Seagulls. However, Jackson eventually clambered to his feet and soldiered on before silencing his critics in the second-half with a fantastic strike to end his drought. Ahead of the game, Pochettino attributed Chelsea's poor start to the season to the squad's inability to finish their chances.
