Sheikh Jassim stance on Tottenham takeover revealed after £5bn Manchester United bid rejected

Tottenham's link to a potential takeover from Qatar-based Sheikh Jassim may well have been handed a huge twist for the coming months. It comes after the businessman dropped out of the race to buy rivals Manchester United as part of a group called the Nine Two Foundation.

Sheikh Jassim was joined by a host of others in contention to take over the Red Devils after the Glazer family looked towards a potential exit. His main contender appeared to be Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who already owns Ligue 1 club OGC Nice as part of his company INEOS.

The pair would battle it out for ownership, but rounds of final bids dragged on until Sheikh Jassim pulled out last week with a final offer reported to be worth roughly £5billion. While his opposition haven't completed a full takeover, they are believed to be closing in on an opening minority stake that would lead to the full purchase.

That has naturally brought about plenty of discussion, withrecent claims that Kylian Mbappe was amongst the players that would have been purchased had the other bid won — though it will be unknown if that would've happened or not. There has also been talks branching off of that regarding other takeover opportunities for Sheikh Jassim.

Tottenham have been named as one of the clubs that would be an option alongside Internazionale, with Daniel Levy discussing a potential sale a few weeks ago. Speaking to Bloomberg, he said: «If anyone wants to make serious propositions to the board of Tottenham, we will consider it along with our advisors. And if we felt it was in the interests of the club, we would be open to anything.»
