Mauricio Pochettino will be less than impressed with Noni Madueke following Chelsea's defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final – but not because of his performance. The 22-year-old winger helped his side create numerous opportunities at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, but the reigning champions prevailed.
Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock in the dying embers of the tie, latching onto a deflected cross from Kevin De Bruyne. Madueke was replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk five minutes prior to Pep Guardiola's side finding the lead – as was Malo Gusto, who was switched out for Axel Disasi.
At full-time, many of the Blues players looked dejected after failing to book themselves a ticket to the final next month. Some looked more upset than others, with Thiago Silva, who sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire in the summer, balling his eyes out.
The veteran defender has been heavily linked with an exit from Chelsea for a while now as he approaches the latter stages of his career. While Silva looked distraught, Madueke was spotted in hysterics just metres away from his teammate.
He was seen sharing a joke with Jack Grealish just minutes after the full-time whistle. A clip of the incident quickly gone viral on social media, with large sections of the Blues fanbase taking aim at the England Under-21 international.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Pochettino reflected on a frustrating afternoon. The Chelsea manager said: «Yeah, but in football the most important thing is to be clinical and to not concede.
