Manchester United have opened discussions with Chelsea over signing Marc Cucurella on loan as a stop-gap replacement for injured England defender Luke Shaw.
United are without a specialist senior left-back in the squad after Shaw picked up a muscular problem before the Nottingham Forest win. Tyrell Malacia has not trained this season and his absence- coupled with Shaw's two-month injury - means reinforcements are required.
Cucurella, 25, has emerged as a preferred option with fellow countrymen Sergio Reguilon (Tottenham) and Marcos Alonso (Barcelona), among the alternatives United are considering. Signing a new left back remains a priority before the Friday night deadline.
Diogo Dalot was forced to play there against Forest and could retain his place for their impending showdown vs Premier League rivals Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. However, whether it is Cucurella or someone else, Ten Hag could do with a natural pick for that game and the testing one-on-one which awaits.
