Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS 'approach' former Liverpool transfer chief to join Manchester United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly made a move to appoint a former Liverpool transfer chief at Manchester United.
Ratcliffe continues to rebuild the hierarchy at Old Trafford following his and Ineos Group's 25 percent takeover of United. The investment was formally approved by the Premier League earlier this month as Ratcliffe and Co. took control of football operations.
Dan Ashworth has been identified by Ineos as the number one candidate for the inaugural sporting director role at United, a position he currently holds at Newcastle. The St James' Park club recently announced that the 52-year-old has been put on gardening leave while negotiations take place over his exit.

And now, according to the Daily Mirror, former Liverpool director of football Julian Ward has been identified by Ratcliffe as a potential new addition to Ashworth's future set-up. The report claims that the 42-year-old has been approached about taking a role at Old Trafford in the revamped recruitment team.
Ward left Liverpool last summer after being the director of football at Anfield for 12 months, where he replaced Michael Edwards. Ward oversaw several major signings at Liverpool, including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister.
United have already moved to hire Omar Berrada as the club's new chief executive, with the announcement made last month. Southampton director of football and former Manchester City academy director Jason Wilcox is also of interest to United as Ratcliffe continues his plans to rebuild the recruitment department
