Fan footage captured the moment Ronaldo was being taunted by rival fans before he responded with what appeared to be an obscene gesture.

One video shows Al Shabbab supporters were chanting “Messi” to get under Ronaldo’s skin — and it appears they achieved their objective.

The 39-year-old was seen cupping his hand to his ear before he turned in the direction of the fans and appeared to mimic a sex act by pumping his hand back and forth in front of his crotch.

The incident was not shown on TV, but the video of the moment has swirled around the world — and there have been calls for Ronaldo to face punishment.

According to local reports, the Suadi football federation (SAFF) has opened an investigation.

A number of high profile sport commentators in the Kingdom have called for action to be taken.
