Virginia Torrecilla' story is an inspiration
Professional footballer Virginia Torrecilla experienced the darkest moments of her life in a very short period of time: she survived a brain tumor, as well as a car accident that left her mother in a wheelchair.
The Spaniard began playing soccer at nine years old and debuted at 14 in a second division team. From there, she went on to play for the most well-known teams of her country.
But in 2020, she received a diagnosis that would change her life: a brain tumor. Torrecilla underwent intense treatments that at times left her doubting her ability to return to the sport. During her recovery, she was dealt another devastating blow. She was involved in a traffic accident when a vehicle struck her car, leaving her mother paralyzed from the waist down.
Torrecilla says life is getting better every day and is focused on her mother still being alive. She credits her family with pushing her to get back into her sport, and in 2022 she returned to the pitch. Her team lost her first match back, but Torrecilla was a clear winner as she was celebrated by all for her determination to continue to fight.
