Reported Liverpool target Romeo Lavia wasted little time in becoming one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in the Premier League.
Despite Southampton’s relegation from the top flight, the teenager certainly made an impact in his breakthrough season. Lavia made 34 appearances across all competitions and quickly proved why the Saints had stumped up £14m for the Manchester City academy starlet, despite making just two previous senior appearances.
With Fabinho seemingly set to move to Saudi Arabia along with captain Jordan Henderson, Liverpool have identified the 19-year-old in their hunt for a new holding midfielder. However, it appears they will have to pay £50m for Lavia after reportedly having a £37m bid turned down.

Lavia was first spotted by Man City, back in 2018, when he starred for Anderlecht in the KDB Cup, which is a tournament for under-15 players organised by Kevin De Bruyne. Lavia's performances impressed City boss Pep Guardiola, who was in attendance, and he eventually signed for the reigning Premier League champions in 2020.
Lavia enjoyed instant success at academy level, splitting his time between City's Under-18s and new Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca’s Under-21s side, winning two age group league titles in his debut season. Lavia then began taking part in first-team training, while winning another under-21 title, and left a positive impression on his compatriot De Bruyne.
