A total of 39 players (21 of the 23 world champions -all except Athenea del Castillo and Claudia Zornoza-) have expressed publicly through a statement the changes they want from the RFEF before returning to the national team.
«The facts that unfortunately everyone has been able to see and go beyond just sports. We must have zero tolerance, for our partner, for us and for all women,» reads the letter that was made public minutes before the presentation of Montse Tome as coach and the call-ups for the first matches of the Nations League.
The players have stood up to an RFEF that has seen the departures of Luis Rubiales and Jorge Vilda, but where there are still many remnants where women's soccer has been mistreated.
The internationals believe that the promise of change by the federation can't happen when the trusted people of the former president are still in their positions.
«The players of the Spanish national team at all times have had an open attitude to dialogue, seeking to convey clear and argued reasons and believe it is necessary to perform our work at the highest level with the respect we deserve,» they said in the letter, where they detailed that their requests are linked to different areas of the federation
«Restructuring of the organizational chart of women's soccer; restructuring of the cabinet of presidency and general secretary; resignation of the president of the RFEF; restructuring of the area of communication and marketing; and restructuring of the area of integrity.»
