Ange Postecoglou is reportedly looking to make a ‘major signing this summer’ and has shortlisted Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
Mail Sport understands that Manchester City had been weighing up whether to sign Eze or Matheus Nunes last summer, ultimately opting to sign the latter, but could reignite their interest in the Palace star this summer.
Eze, who hasn’t played since he suffered a muscular tear in during Palace’s 3-2 win against Sheffield United on January 30, has been on the Treble winner’s radar for the past year.
According to The Independent, the 25-year-old is ‘one of Ange Postecoglou’s top targets alongside Wolves' Pedro Neto' with the outlet claiming that the Spurs manager is looking to sign a player who can 'expand the pitch through pace out wide'.
They add that Eze and Neto ‘fit their playing profile’ but will need to rival City to sign Eze, with Pep Guardiola’s side appear to be the front runners to sign the attacking midfielder.
In his attempts to deploy a fast, attacking brand of football on his new side, the Australian manager signed Timo Werner on loan in January from Red Bull Leipzig.
While the German has had a solid start to life in north London, his loan deal will expire in the summer, and Tottenham are looking to bring in a permanent replacement.
Eze joined the Eagles in 2020 and has been the target of several clubs throughout the Premier League, thanks to an excellent few years at Crystal Palace, returning 20 goals and 14 assists in 113 matches in all competitions.
The England international, who received his first senior cap in June, penned a new three-and-a-half year deal with the south London outfit back in November, with Palace set to demand upwards of £70million for the talented attacker.
