Steven Gerrard hints at more spending from his club and Suadi League in winter
Steven Gerrard has insisted Al Ettifaq will 'scour Europe' for more transfer targets as the Saudi Pro League looks to loosen the purse strings again.
Gerrard took over the Saudi side in July but they currently sit seventh in the league table at the moment with 21 points from 12 games.
The Liverpool legend has vowed to recruit better over January to help his side climb their way back up, and has set his sights on more European players to join.
Fellow former Reds captain Jordan Henderson joined Al Ettifaq over the summer, while ex Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is also on the books.
However Gerrard is keen to continue a strong spending spree from the summer and will eye the European market again.
Gerrard promised: 'To assure our fans, we are going to scour Europe for more options.
'But we'll also, more importantly, need to scour locally to improve this squad to be more competitive.'
Despite having Henderson, Dembele and former Everton and Leicester winger Demarai Gray, Al Ettifaq have struggled to keep up with the bigger sides.
Neymar's Al Hilal currently sit top of the league while Al Nassr, captained by Cristiano Ronaldo, are in second.
These types of big names plying their trade in Saudi Arabia show the pull football in the Middle East has at the moment.
After spending a whopping £767m on new signings alone, the league is set to go again as it eyes up some of Europe's biggest talents to secure with massive bids and high wages.
