Match of the Day pundits have weighed in on Chelsea’s issues after their draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge. The Blues were unable to make the most of their man advantage after Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon conceded a penalty and was sent off before half-time.
Cole Palmer put Chelsea ahead from the spot but the lead was short-lived as Josh Cullen fired the Clarets level shortly after the break. Palmer was at the double in the 78th minute after combining with Raheem Sterling. Much to Chesea’s disappointment, though, the game mirrored earlier events as defender Dara O’Shea headed Burnley level three minutes later.
In the aftermath of the penalty incident, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was also shown a red card. However, Chelsea twice surrendered the momentum as Mauricio Pochettino’s team failed to get the better of the relegation-threatened Clarets.

“[The red cards] seemed to somehow make Burnley better,” former Arsenal defender Martin Keown told Match of the Day. “The space they were getting in that midfield, [Chelsea] paid £200m for that midfield. You see Cullen, who normally sits quite deep, plays a little one-two and it’s an unbelievable effort. The space he’s got is ridiculous.”
