Thierry Henry has cast doubt over the performances of Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya amid a run of mistakes in recent matches. It comes as the Spaniard has quickly moved into seemingly becoming the first-choice option in goal for the Gunners since making his switch in the summer.
Joining from Brentford on an initial loan with an option of a permanent deal, Raya had been viewed as a shot stopper that will bring competition to Aaron Ramsdale. The England international had been the uncontested first choice for some time before then, ousting Bernd Leno for the position beforehand.
While there were mistakes in some key matches, Ramsdale had seemingly earned the trust of his managers, defenders and the fanbase. So the switch to Raya had brought around plenty of question marks, which were only pushed further once he was given a consistent run of games.
The Spaniard brings in an ability with the ball at his feet as well as with the saves he can make, but so far there have been some nervous moments too. A mistake against RC Lens in the Champions League was costly in defeat before he was under yet more scrutiny in the following games.
The recent 2-2 draw with rivals Chelsea saw Raya lobbed from an aggressive near-post position that was viewed as another mistake. In the following clash with Sevilla on Tuesday night, another few nervous moments have brought the goalkeeper debate back into the spotlight.
