Todd Boehly Chelsea transfer plan handed boost after Sam Jewell makes Brighton decision
Brighton and Hove Albion head of recruitment Sam Jewell has accepted an offer to join Chelsea, according to reports.
The Athletic have reported that Jewell has resigned from his role at the AMEX Stadium and is now expected to join the Blues in a global role around November at the conclusion of his notice period.
Paul Winstanley, who also swapped Brighton for Stamford Bridge, and Laurence Stewart have already continued their structuring of the recruitment team in west London. Swansea City's head of football operations Josh Marsh is expected to be appointed as loans manager.
Jewell's role will see him be in charge of Chelsea and their sister club, Strasbourg, who are now also owned by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. The 34-year-old has worked closely with Winstanley at Brighton having joined the Seagulls in 2016 as Under-21 recruitment manager.
It isn't the first time that Chelsea have raided Brighton in recent years as Winstanley, Stewart and Graham Potter all followed the same path. Moises Caicedo was signed for a British record fee worth £115million in the summer after defender Marc Cucurella (£56m) and Robert Sanchez (£25m).
Brighton have had a very unique way of working in the last few seasons and their strategy in recruitment has left many impressed. Their movement in the South American market, where they signed Caicedo, to buy cheap undiscovered gems is one already on Chelsea's radar.
