In the wake of ISIS terror threats towards this week's Champions League quarter-final matches, UEFA has assured fans that the this week's games — including Arsenal vs Bayern Munich — will go ahead as planned.
The chilling proclamation from the Al Azaim Foundation, an instrument commonly used by ISIS for distributing messages, was a threat to all Champions League quarter-final matches taking place this week. Arsenal take on Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium tonight, with Real Madrid hoting Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu at the same time. Atletico Madrid welcome Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund in Spain on Wednesday, whereas superpowers will collide when Paris Saint-Germain play host to Barcelona in the French capital.
UEFA responded to the ISIS threat by issuing a statement. It read: «UEFA is aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week's UEFA Champions League matches and is closely liaising with the authorities at the respective venues.
»All matches are planned to go ahead as scheduled with appropriate security arrangements in place."
The disturbing occurrences come shortly after March 22's horrific assault claimed by the Islamic State on Crocus City Concert Hall in Moscow in which armed insurgents stormed the facility and let loose gunfire upon attendees. The terrifying incident led to the loss of 143 lives and left around 200 people injured.
