There were goals aplenty in this season’s quarter-finals, and those have had an effect on who is leading the top goalscorers chart.
It’s fair to say that this season’s Champions League knockout stage is proving to be rather a special one when it comes to goals and excitement. Take the first legs of the quarter-finals, for instance, where we watched on, eyes wide open, as they went into the record books with the joint record number of collective goals, with 18 goals across the four matches. But Kane, as well as Erling Haaland who is one behind the Englishman, are expected to be playing on Wednesday for Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively.
The net bulgers often get the headlines, but let’s spare a thought for those creative geniuses that are laying on goals for others, the assist providers. As of Tuesday, Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer leads the way on five, but the likes of Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr (both Madrid) and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) sit just one behind, with games ahead.
