League of Ireland First Division
Waterford FC 0 Wexford FC 0
With the SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division season approaching the playoff stages, two of those clubs that will be involved in those over the coming weeks, Waterford FC and Wexford FC , played out a scoreless draw in front of Republic of Ireland Senior Men’s manager Stephen Kenny at the RSC.
In a game that the home side had the better of the chances, they’ll be cursing their luck after harshly having a 55th-minute effort from Ronan Coughlan ruled out for an offside decision that going by TV replays looked a marginal call.
The post denied Waterford what would have been a lucky early breakthrough goal on five minutes when right full-back Darragh Power raced clear down the right-side before putting in a cross that beat keeper Owen Mason, but the ball came crashing back off the far post.
Dean McMenamy was off target with a cracking effort from the top of the penalty area after Burke’s right-wing delivery on 42 minutes before Cameron Cresswell was denied the breakthrough goal with a curling left-footed effort on the stroke of the half-time whistle as his strike was turned around the posts.
Coughlan had the best of the chances in the second-half with the effort that was ruled out for offside starting a flurry of effort from the striker with Wexford keeper Owen Mason saving from the centre forward on 63 minutes and 78 minutes respectively as a disappointing contest ended in scoreless stalemate.
