West Ham provide new George Earthy update after scary head injury hospitalises debutant

West Ham midfielder George Earthy has been discharged from hospital following the scary-looking head injury he suffered against Fulham yesterday.

The 19-year-old had just come on as a substitute for his Premier League debut when he collided with team-mate Edson Alvarez in the middle of the pitch.

Earthy fell to the ground awkwardly and appeared to have been knocked out cold, sparking worrying scenes as team-mates and medics from both clubs rushed to help the stricken youngster.

After receiving treatment for eight minutes, Earthy was carried off on a stretcher. He was conscious when he was taken out of the London Stadium in an ambulance around 20 minutes after full-time.

West Ham say Earthy has now returned to his home and will follow Football Association and Premier League concussion guidelines ahead of any return to action.

Hammers medical chief Richard Collinge said: «George is back home and we will continue to monitor him over the coming days as he completes the graduated return to play programme.»

Fulham's 2-0 victory, thanks to a brace from Andreas Pereira, was overshadowed by the incident.

West Ham boss David Moyes said post-match: «It's been a head injury, he is awake and on his way to hospital. His first three or four touches were terrific, really disappointed for the boy. He has been doing ever so well in training.»
