Following on from the club's worst season in their 30-year stint in the Premier League, Chelsea were in dire need of a dressing room clear-out. And boy did they get one.
One of the first names on the chopping block was winger and USMNT captain Christian Pulisic whose four-year stint at Stamford Bridge came to a sluggish, frustrating end with a move to Serie A powerhouse AC Milan. Linking up with ex-Blues Olivier Giroud, Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic aimed to find the heights he'd shown glimpses of at Borussia Dortmund as a teenager before his move to Chelsea.
However, on his way out, he wasn't shy about highlighting how it hadn't all gone his way at Chelsea, having often been hampered by injuries and managerial disagreements throughout his years with the club. Speaking on his move, he said: «Of course there were definitely times where I wish I could have gotten that much more of an opportunity and been 'that guy,' but that's not the case.
»I'm strongly proud of what I achieved at Chelsea, winning major cup finals, being on the pitch and helping my team, Champions League, Super Cup, all that.
«I believe I had great moments at Chelsea. I learned a lot as a player and I grew a lot, but now I'm completely ready for this brilliant challenge at AC Milan.
»It's been a tough season for me personally and for our team at club level. I thought it was a great couple years and the last couple years just haven't gone at all how I've planned them to be."
