Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou hailed captain Son Heung-min for his vital contribution in the team's late 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Looking set to register a point against the Seagulls following Pape Matar Sarr's equaliser on the hour mark, Brennan Johnson popped up with the winner in the 96th minute.
Son, on his return to the team after a month away at the Asian Cup, was the architect as he picked out his teammate at the back post to spark wild scenes inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Speaking to the media in his post-match press conference, Postecoglou stated that it may have looked like a simple ball for Son to make but world-class players produce when it matters most in those clutch moments.
«I'm not really sure about confident… I was putting on some good players, and guys who can make an impact,» said Postecoglou when he was asked if he was confident in his substitutions paying off and securing a win for his side. «But again they've got to do that. Especially in that midfield, front third, we've been pretty limited lately in terms of what we can do. Just to give us a little bit more energy.
»Obviously Brighton were doing really well but they were working really hard to stay in the game. You know they're going to get tired, the fact that we could bring on two attacking players who are going to be a threat.
«It maybe looks simple but that ball that Sonny plays, that's a world-class player in a clutch moment, finds the right pass, you can't do that if you can't bring him on, if it's somebody else.
»Even Brennan getting on the far post, we've helped him to do that. It's not about confidence… I feel like with the squad we have for today and hopefully moving towards, we do have that ability
