Lionel Messi has been tipped to win a record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or award tonight following his World Cup-winning exploits last year. Erling Haaland is also in with a shout to win the award at the Theatre du Chatelet after winning the treble with Manchester City last term — scoring 52 goals in 53 appearances.
Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, former Tottenham striker Harry Kane, and Jude Bellingham join Haaland and Messi on the 30-man Ballon d'Or nominees list. Aaron Ramsdale has been nominated for the Yashin Trophy — awarded to the best performing goalkeeper.
It's not just the Ballon d'Or winner being announced by organisers France Football tonight, but the winner of the Ballon d'Or Feminin too. Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati is the favourite to win the award, while Chelsea's Millie Bright — along with Rachel Daly, Georgia Stanway and Mary Earps — are the English nominees.
The Ballon d'Or winner will be crowned tonight on Monday October 30, 2023, at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. The ceremony is set to begin around 8pm BST and will be broadcast live on French newspaper L’Equipe’s YouTube channel and website.
