Darren Bent has pleaded for 'someone to explain' why Arsenal signed Kai Havertz in the summer after another disappointing performance.
The German international played the full 90 minutes in the Gunners' 3-1 defeat at West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Havertz' performances for Arsenal this season have been questioned since his £65million move from London rivals Chelsea.
He lacked consistency during his three-year spell at the Blues and it seems as though this has followed him to the Emirates Stadium.
As a result, ex-Premier League striker and Arsenal fan Bent took to X to raise his concerns about Havertz and the impact he has on the side.
«Fair play to West Ham, Arsenal not at the races at all tonight,» the talkSPORT Drive co-host said on Wednesday night.
«I hate singling out one player but I need someone to explain why 65million was spent on Kai Havertz and what exactly is he bringing to the team?
»15 games into the season I haven't seen anything substantial."
Havertz made his 11th start of the season in the defeat at West Ham, with Mikel Arteta clearly a fan of his quality.
However, the 24-year-old has so far scored just one goal in his 16 appearances for the club.
The German also has one assist, although it proved crucial as he teed up Gabriel Martinelli's late winner against Manchester City.
Arsenal's latest defeat means they have one less chance to win silverware this season, with West Ham by far the better side.
An own-goal from Ben White gave the Hammers the lead before Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen netted in a cruising victory.
Martin Odegaard scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time but it wasn't enough to salvage a comeback from Arsenal.
