The transfer saga of Romelu Lukaku over the past three years is something truly historic. His outcasting at Chelsea in recent weeks and the disdain Blues fans hold for him isn't often seen, especially for a player returning to a club after a seven year absence.
Having forked up £100million to Inter Milan, only to loan him back to the Serie A champions for £7million a season later, it was laughably bad business for Chelsea. Following his return from that loan, things haven't gotten much better.
There are limited options at this point for the Belgian. But where did it all go wrong? How did Lukaku put himself in this position? Did it all just stem from one incident, were injuries an issue?

Two years and one day ago, Lukaku was preparing for his second debut as a Chelsea player - away at the Emirates Stadium for a date with bitter rivals Arsenal. After a long and hyped return following a very successful season with Inter Milan, supporters were ready to see what their club-record signing was going to pull off.
Well, what better way to start than to utterly breeze past an entire defensive unit and score in less than 15 minutes?
"Look at the strength, it's just classic Romelu Lukaku," Gary Neville said after watching the Belgian power past Pablo Mari and tap a Reece James cross into an open net past Bernd Leno. James would go on to score another 20 minutes later and the Blues celebrated a 2-0 win. After the match, Lukaku is interviewed by Sky Sports and is asked how he'd describe his performance.
