Arsenal starlet Charles Sagoe Jr has been handed his first senior appearance for the club by Mikel Arteta. The youngster is set to start in attack alongside Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson against Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round.
The Gunners have been hampered by injuries to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the last week. Saka limped off after the 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Sunday and does not feature in the matchday squad this evening.
Martinelli picked up a hamstring injury against Everton, whilst Trossard was left out of the squad that faced Spurs after sustaining a knock in training earlier last week. Arteta has been forced into rotating his starting XI following the North London Derby and in doing so, has handed Sagoe Jr his first senior appearance.
So, what can Arsenal fans expect from the 19-year-old? football.london takes a look...
Sagoe Jr is an attacking player who can operate either as an offensive midfielder or on the wing. He has been one of the stand out performers at Under-18 and Under-21 levels in the past two seasons and has now been handed the opportunity to perform in the senior team.
The 19-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Gunners last year after joining Arsenal from Fulham in July 2015. He has consistently been an attacking threat throughout the age groups since moving to the Emirates Stadium at age 11.
