Chelsea face Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge this afternoon looking to earn their second Premier League victory of the season. The Blues have only managed to beat Luton Town this term and have failed to score in their last two fixtures.
Last week's goalless draw at AFC Bournemouth demonstrated the problems within Mauricio Pochettino's squad in the final third. Chelsea have scored only five league goals this season and have continued their unwanted poor form in front of goal.
Today, Unai Emery's Villa are their opponents and it will be no easy task. The West Midlands outfit have enjoyed an impressive start to the season with three wins in their opening five games — losing only to Newcastle and Liverpool.
Their participation in Europe on Thursday night, a 3-2 defeat in Poland, means they come into this afternoon's contest with only two days of rest. The likes of Ollie Watkins, Douglas Luiz and Moussa Diaby were all used off the bench against Legia Warsaw meaning Chelsea have an advantage.
Victory for Pochettino's side could see them rise as high as ninth in the league table. Villa would need a seven-goal swing for them to overtake Brighton in fifth with three points.
