Mikel Arteta is set to attend a personal hearing with the FA for his comments after Arsenal's defeat against Newcastle last month. The Gunners boss did not pull any punches when he was quizzed on the controversial defeat to Newcastle, describing Anthony Gordon's only goal of the game as an 'absolute disgrace' to officiating.
As Arsenal's unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign came to an end in dramatic circumstances, tensions rose in the Gunners' dugout and Arteta burst with emotion in his post-match press conference. «We have to talk about the result because you have to talk about how the hell this goal stand ups and it’s incredible,» said the Arsenal boss after the defeat against the Magpies.
«I feel embarrassed but I have to be the one now coming here to try to defend the club and please ask for help, because it's an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed. It’s an absolute disgrace.»
Following his comments, the Arsenal boss was slapped with a charge for breaching FA rule E3.1. An FA statement read: «Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.1 following comments that he made in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday, November 4.
»It's alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute," the statement continued. Now, Arteta is set to appear at a personal hearing this afternoon ahead of Arsenal's tricky fixture against Aston Villa this weekend, according to the BBC.
