Xabi Alonso is set to face the German press ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's clash with Hoffenheim on Saturday.
The former Liverpool midfielder and long-standing favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer is widely thought to be in a position to announce that he will remain in Germany for next season. The Bayer boss will turn down approaches from the Reds and Bayern Munich to remain for at least another campaign, the ECHOunderstands.
In just his second year at the club, he is close to winning a remarkable league title, with the Europa League and the German Cup still up for grabs. With his ties to Liverpool and as one of the brightest young coaches in the world, Alonso has been hotly tipped to succeed Klopp when he steps down in May.
The Spaniard is also admired by Bayern Munich as they look for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, who will also be departing in a few months.
Liverpool will now turn their attention elsewhere as Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim move into the spotlight. Here, the ECHOwill cover everything Alonso has to say on the matter. Alonso is due to face the media at 1pm UK time.
