When Abdoulaye Doucoure ended Everton’s wait for their first Premier League goal of the season, it looked like his side were also about to bust a long-running stat.
Less than 24 hours had passed since the closure of the transfer window when Everton took to the field at Bramall Lane, and they did so without Alex Iwobi in their ranks, although he was always set to miss this game due to injury.
However, Iwobi is now a Fulham player after joining Marco Silva’s side in a deal worth £22million on deadline day. It was confirmed in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Speaking ahead of this game, Sean Dyche admitted he did not want to lose the versatile midfielder, but the club’s model meant they were left with no choice but to accept Fulham’s offer.

No Everton player has divided opinion as much as Iwobi. And the differing opinions on the transfer speak volumes.
However, he will be missed. Not only was his versatility a welcome addition to a threadbare squad, but he has shown in recent years that he is more than up for the fight.
And there is also an ugly truth that has emerged for Everton when it comes to Iwobi. They simply don’t win football games without him.
This is now the 10th straight game in which the Blues have failed to pick up all three points when the Nigeria international has not played. However, there is some small comfort; the other nine had all ended in defeats.
