With Everton hoping to get more players back after the international break, members of the ECHO sportsdesk have had their say on just what is Sean Dyche's strongest 11 right now if he has his full squad available.
Chris Beesley - Beto could prove a serious threat to Calvert-Lewin
Considering how small Everton’s squad is, manager Sean Dyche will be encouraged by there actually being some genuine selection dilemmas in several areas of the pitch if he ever gets everyone fit, especially – all of a sudden – in attacking areas.
Beto’s £25.8million move to Goodison Park could prove to be a game-changer when it comes to leading the line as – like fellow 6ft 4in Portuguese target man Youssef Chermiti – he’s far more of a like-for-like alternative to Dominic Calvert-Lewin than the diminutive Neal Maupay could ever be. Also, given the substantial fee that Everton handed to Udinese for his services and his instant impact – scoring on his at Doncaster Rovers just a day after signing – Beto could prove a serious threat to usurping the number nine’s position as the squad’s leading frontman in a manner that previous target Che Adams might not have done.
Alex Iwobi – and Demarai Gray six days after the English transfer window shut – have both departed but Dyche still has options out wide with Arnaut Danjuma netting in both of Everton’s last two matches, last season’s top scorer Dwight McNeil making his first appearance of this term off the bench at Sheffield United and Jack Harrison also yet to come. Once the Blues have all their wide men available, James Garner might push for a place in his preferred central midfield role to keep the currently incumbent trio of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye on their toes.
