Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has joked that Manchester United are by far the best supported English team in Turkey and that no one else comes second.
The Turkey international, who has helped his country qualify for Euro 2024, is yet to make his United bow after signing from Fenerbahce this summer. He will be needed if Andre Onana decides to represent Cameroon in January’s Africa Cup of Nations, as expected.
Onana went off injured in his country’s 3-0 win over Mauritius in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier, with an official update yet to be given. Bayindir could make his first outing against Everton next weekend if Erik ten Hag’s first-choice ‘keeper is not ready in time.

Bayindir recently sat down with club media to discuss his start to life in Manchester and was asked whether United was the best supported English team in Turkey, as opposed to Liverpool and Manchester City.
He laughed before replying: “Yeah of course. Manchester United are number one, and second one… we don’t have a second one I think, just Manchester United.”
The 25-year-old said United were a team he had followed when forging his own career in the game and took big inspiration from one former heroic United shot-stopper. He added: “My favourite goalkeeper is Edwin van der Sar, he is a legend. I watched a lot of Manchester United games.”
Bayindir is set to return to Turkey with United when the Reds take on Galatasaray in a must-win Champions League group stage match. The clash takes place three days after the trip to Everton and so if Onana is too unfit to play, Bayindir could be given the nod at RAMS Park.
