L’Équipe and Ouest-France are reporting that Jocelyn Gourvennec has been sacked as manager at FC Nantes. He will be replaced by Antoine Kombouaré.
Things will come full circle at Nantes. Koumbouaré was sacked towards the end of last season with the club mired in a relegation battle. He was replaced by Pierre Aristouy, who after securing Les Canaris’ safety on the last day of last season, was sacked in November and replaced by Gourvennec.
Whilst the former Lille OSC manager earned a victory over OGC Nice in his first game in charge at Nantes, he has failed to spark a revival. He has lost 10 of his 15 games as Nantes manager, and the latest, against fellow strugglers RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday evening, has put an end to his spell.
With Nantes currently occupying the relegation play-off spot, Gourvennec will now make way and be replaced by Kombouaré, who this time will be given the chance to save Nantes from relegation. The officialisation of Kombouaré’s arrival is expected to come before Wednesday.
