Arsenal and Chelsea can use FFP points deduction to solve problem in summer transfer window

Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs that could take advantage of Nottingham Forest's fragile financial predicament this summer. Earlier this week,Forest were docked four points for breaking profit and sustainability rules with the deduction pushing them into the Premier League relegation zone.

Everton were also found guilty of breaching PSR in late 2023 and subsequently received a 10-point deduction, later amended to six following a successful appeal. Despite recording losses of £34.5million, in comparison to Everton's £19.5million, Forest were given a more lenient punishment because of their early plea and cooperation.

Given the transfers Forest have completed since earning promotion to the Premier League, they remain in a hugely dangerous situation and could therefore face further punishment if they are unable to raise funds. Selling a key first-team player would certainly help matters with Morgan Gibbs-White, who joined from Wolves for £42.5million, the one most likely to be sacrificed.

Alternatively, central defender Murillo could be sold for significant profit, after signing a five-year contract at the City Ground for a fee of just £12million last summer, with a whole host of clubs now monitoring the 21-year-old. According to the Mail, from the Premier League, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are said to be interested. In Europe, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are also being linked.

Injuries have left the Gunners with limited options in defence this season with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber among those missing out. When everyone is fit, depth is not a major issue for Mikel Arteta however signing Murillo would solve a number of problems.
