Erik ten Hag had to be calmed down by Bruno Fernandes heading into the hafl-time break against Arsenal.
The Gunners suffered a 2-0 defeat, courtesy of first half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho. Despite his team’s early lead, Ten Hag was far from pleased as he prepared to head to the dressing room for the interval.
It may have been a friendly on paper but that did not stop the two rivals producing some tough tackles, with Man United youngster Amad Diallo coming off injured in the second half and Harry Maguire going into the book for a challenge on Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard. However, it was the referee’s verdict on a tackle committed by Lisandro Martinez that angered the Man United boss.

The Argentinian defender received a yellow card after his challenge appeared to go through the back of Bukayo Saka, despite winning the ball. It led to a confrontation between both sets of players, with Odegaard and Martinez exchanging words , and new Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes forced to play ‘peacekeeper’ as his manager was ‘pulled away’ from confronting officials after the half-time whistle according to the Manchester Evening News.
When asked about Man United’s approach to the game, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “They are here to compete and to win as we are. It’s the job of the referee to stop it.
