Arsenal can complete two-year transfer mission as Barcelona open to selling £68m-rated star
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Barcelona star Ferran Torres since 2021 and could finally complete a deal to sign the Spanish forward this summer. Torres can play as a winger or as a centre-forward and fits the attacking profile Mikel Arteta is looking to add to his squad ahead of next season.
The 23-year-old scored seven goals and provided a further three assists for the Spanish giants last term. However, he only completed 90 minutes on five occasions in La Liga as he fell down the pecking order at the Camp Nou.
Arsenal have once again been linked with trying to tempt Torres back to the Premier League, where he impressed in his brief 18-month spell with Manchester City before signing for Barcelona. Aston Villa are also interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer as Unai Emery looks to bolster his squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports for Caught Offside that there has been nothing concrete on a move for the 23-year-old. However, he added that Barcelona would be open to discussing a move for the Spain international if serious offers came in.
CIES Football Observatory value Torres at €80million (£68million) with his current deal at Barca not set to expire until 2027. It is unclear whether the Gunners would be able to afford that fee considering they have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea in a £65million deal.
Arsenal are also set to complete the signing of Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice this week for a combined fee of £145million. Arteta may be able to fund a move for Torres with a number of fringe players up for sale at the Emirates Stadium.
