Not all of Arsenal's January attention has been turned towards solving their goalscoring problems. Mikel Arteta's men have fallen well short in recent weeks and are nowhere near reaching the attacking form that propelled them into an unexpected title race last term.

However, the lack of stability behind the forwards hasn't helped and Arteta's fight to gain total control has partially led to things becoming more stagnated. Oleksandr Zinchenko's form at left-back is worrying whilst the failure to replace Granit Xhaka — or anything of the like — has left an almighty hole.

Arsenal have long-term interest in Zubimendi and football.london understands that they have been tracking him since well before the summer. With a view to opening up the interest, which first came to a head in the summer as Partey exit talk materialised under the Saudi Pro League banner, the Gunners have kept tabs on the 24-year-old.
Contracted at Real Sociedad until 2027 he has a release clause of £52million. With four goals and an assist in 19 league games this season he is also already surpassing the output from last term but it is his defensive work that is most notable. Zubimendi, though seen as a tough deal to get through mid-season, is one of the more obvious options available
