Bayern star Harry Kane names Man United legend as his 'role model' in football

Harry Kane has revealed the Manchester United legend who was his football 'role model' growing up.

Prior to his transfer from Tottenham to Bayern Munich in the final days of the summer window, England captain Kane came close to a move to Old Trafford.

Mail Sport revealed in September that Kane had set his heart on United and would have seen out the final 12 months of his contract at Spurs before signing for Erik ten Hag’s side as a free agent next year if he knew the deal was guaranteed to go ahead.

However, things worked out differently and the former Spurs star has been plying his trade for the German champions - where he's scored 24 goals in 20 league matches.

Now, Kane's affinity to United has perhaps been explained after the England captain revealed to BBC Sport who his main role model in football was.

Kane said: ‘I used to look up to players like David Beckham. Now I’m in that situation – there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me.

‘Looking at what I do, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. You listen to your role models. I would have done anything Beckham said when I was a kid.’

Back in 2018, a picture of Kane and Kate Goodland - now his wife - came to light that was taken at the launch of the Beckham Academy, in Greenwich, when they were youngsters.

The duo posed with former United legend Beckham as they took part in its first summer school of excellence.

And back in 2022, Beckham praised England captain Kane for stepping up to take the Three Lions' second penalty in their World Cup defeat against France.

Kane missed from the spot after scoring an earlier penalty in the game, a strike which would have pulled England level in the match, which ended 2-1.
