Arsenal handed major blow as senior players train ahead of RC Lens Champions League clash

Fabio Vieira has not trained with the Arsenal squad ahead of Wednesday night's clash against RC Lens and therefore could be unavailable for the huge UEFA Champions League clash.

Now, football.london are present at London Colney for today's open training session and noted that the Portuguese attacking midfielder was not with the rest of the senior players as they walked out. As things currently stand, it's unclear as to why the 23-year-old was absent.

Amid a possible injury setback, it could be that Vieira joins Jurrien Timber, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe as the first-team players who will miss the game against Lens as the Gunners aim to seal qualification for the last-16 and top spot in Group B with a victory.

Ultimately if the midfielder has to miss out it will add to his frustrations especially as he is available again after sitting out Arsenal's 1-0 win over Brentford at the weekend. As his suspension only applies to Premier League matters he would have been in line to return to the matchday squad with up to 23 players permitted to be named.

Initially, when the Gunners trained on Tuesday afternoon, there was no sign of Ben White either. The defender missed the Burnley game before the international break with a muscle problem but was passed fit for the trip to Brentford, making a late appearance as a substitute as a result.

Having said that, White did walk out with strength and conditioning coach Sam Wilson and trained on his own so it remains to be seen what his availabilty for the Lens game is.
