Folarin Balogun reaches initial agreement as Arsenal given £50m transfer wish after Monaco bid
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has reached an initial agreement on personal terms with Monaco — as per RMC Sport. The Ligue 1 outfit had an opening bid to sign the 22-year-old rejected by the Gunners earlier this week, football.london understands.
The two clubs faced each other in the Emirates Cup last week in a match which Arsenal eventually won on penalties. Balogun was absent from the game due to a thigh injury, and it has now emerged that Monaco submitted a formal offer for the American international after the game — but this offer was turned down.
Balogun proved his ability in Ligue 1 last term after scoring 22 goals during a loan spell with Stade de Reims before returning to the Emirates Stadium this summer. Monaco are looking to bring in a striker after Swiss forward Breel Embolo suffered an ACL injury in pre-season.
A report from RMC Sport has claimed that Monaco’s opening bid was worth €40million (£34m) — £16million lower than the Gunners' reported £50million asking price — but the Ligue 1 side intend to return with an improved offer. The report adds that the French outfit have made signing Balogun their priority and already have agreed personal terms with the Hale End graduate.
