Arsenal have identified their priority signing ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Gunners have been heavily linked with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres and Joshua Zirkzee recently as Mikel Arteta hopes to bolster his frontline.
While the Sporting striker impressed in the Championship last season, neither have any Premier League experience. So, according to NowArsenal, Arteta has made Alexander Isak the club's 'number one attacking target' as he continues to impress for Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old striker, who sees his contract at St James' Park expire in 2028, has featured 20 times in the English top flight this term, scoring 12 goals – two of which have come against Manchester City and Liverpool. Despite some injury problems and disappointing results, he's helped the Magpies mount a bid for a place in the top six.
NowArsenal adds that the north Londoners have been great admirers of Isak since he first began making a name for himself at Real Sociedad. It remains to be seen whether or not the Gunners will pursue a move for the Sweden international this summer, but Newcastle could certainly be under pressure to sell their talisman.
In January, the Magpies' CEO admitted that every player at St James' Park has a price after the club's full set of financial accounts were published. For the latest accounting period, Newcastle posted a £73.4million post-tax loss, with the losses largely attributed to 'continued investment in the playing squad', as per a statement that accompanied the figures.
