Jurgen Klopp will do his best to paint a positive picture after Liverpool's 3-0 defeat at home to Atalanta in Thursday's Europa League quarter-final, yet the German coach had to watch his side capitulate.
Just days after securing a late draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Merseyside club failed to win for a second successive match as they were blown away by an Atalanta side that many felt weren't as good as they were in previous years.
Atalanta had the first chance of the evening with Mario Pasalic, on his return to England, forcing a reflex save out of Caoimhin Kelleher.
Alexis MacAllister then received the ball in Atalanta's penalty area at the other end, but the Argentine blasted over from close range.
Liverpool never really found their rhythm throughout the game, with Harvey Elliott's free-kick rattling the post being the team's only real moment of note after the early MacAllister chance.
The Italian side eventually took the lead after 38 minutes of play, and it was a combination of former Premier League players. Davide Zappacosta played a long ball to Gianluca Scamacca, who cut inside and fired a shot under Kelleher, who will feel he could have done better.
Atalanta continued to press after the break
On the hour mark it was 2-0 as Anfield was stunned into silence. Charles De Ketelaere put a cross into the box and Scamacca was on hand again to fire home a loose ball with a shot into the bottom left corner.
It was attack after attack for Atalanta, although Mohamed Salah's introduction from the bench seemed to spark Liverpool into life.
The Egyptian found the back of the net, but VAR determined that he was offside.
