Barcelona are considering a stunning move to re-sign Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.
Spanish international Thiago is entering the final year of his deal at Anfield and is drawing interest from a number teams across Europe and the Middle East.
And it seems as though his career in Merseyside could soon be coming to an end with the LaLiga giants scoping him out as potential transfer target.
According to SPORT, Liverpool are not keen to sell Thiago this summer but will be willing to listen to reasonable offers for the Spanish international.
The outlet claim that Barcelona manager Xavi is taken an interest in Thiago due the midfielder's versatility across the centre of the pitch.
Club president Joan Laporta recently hinted at Xavi's urge to sign a midfielder in a recent interview with the Mundo Deportivo. He said: 'Xavi says that we will go for the Champions League and that it will almost be mandatory if we reinforce the team with a couple of pieces.'
Thiago has struggled to replicate the form that won him widespread plaudits at Bayern Munich, since moving to England, with his three-year spell at Anfield regularly disrupted by injuries.
He has been ruled out 62 games in total since signing for Liverpool at the start of the 2020-21 campaign, and following the arrival of two new midfielders in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hungary star Dominik Szoboszlai, he now appears to have slipped down the pecking order.
Having already invested heavily this summer, the club may therefore look to cash in on a player with just a year left on his contract, in a bid to recoup some of the £95million they have spent.
